This course teaches people diagnosed with MacTel how to create a meaningful plan for their life after diagnosis.

I know what it’s like to leave an appointment understanding every medical word that was said—and still sit in the car afterward thinking, Okay…but how am I supposed to live with this?
I’ve been a nurse for 30 years.
I’m a nurse life coach.
And I have MacTel.
So I know firsthand that the hardest part isn’t always the scans, appointments, or medical information. Sometimes it’s the 2 a.m. what-ifs.
It’s wondering whether adapting means giving up.
It’s worrying about losing your independence—or pieces of yourself—along with your vision. And it’s trying to plan a life around changes you can’t completely predict.
That’s why I created A Grounded Horizon: Living Beyond a MacTel Diagnosis.
This isn’t another place to tell you to “just stay positive,” and I’m not going to promise you everything will be fine.
This is support for the part nobody talks about enough: the part where you go home and still have a life to live.
Together, I will help you reconnect with what matters, respond differently to fear and uncertainty, adapt without surrendering your independence, reclaim the choices that are still yours, and reimagine what comes next.
Because MacTel may change parts of your life—but it does not get to become your identity, and it does not get to write the rest of your story for you.

“Working with Melissa has made a profound and positive impact on my life. With her guidance, I’ve learned to recognize my own strength and move from feeling powerless to feeling more in control of my thoughts and emotions. I no longer feel helpless or hopeless—I feel more capable of handling difficult situations, and having that sense of control is an amazing feeling. Melissa has been a true gift in my life and has made a tremendous difference."
-Deb L.
“Melissa’s coaching helped me become more aware of how I show up in my life and recognize my emotions instead of simply pushing through them. My biggest win has been learning to pause instead of reacting automatically, which has made me feel more confident and empowered. Her guidance continues to support me in real moments—at work, at home, and in difficult conversations. The impact lasts far beyond the sessions.”
— Marilyn B.

Creating a practical post-diagnosis life plan

Dr. Jerome Schartman of Retina Associates of Cleveland and surgical team from Cleveland Eye and Laser and Laser Surgery Center with patient Melissa R. Williams, the first Ohio recipient of the Encelto implant.

Implant Authorization & Financial-Navigation Coaching gives you personalized guidance throughout the process—from referral through your surgical implant.
Through asynchronous coaching, you can submit questions, situations, or challenges as they arise and receive personalized guidance through Whatsapp or schedule a live 15-minute coaching session.
You’ll have practical support to help you navigate the implant authorization process, understand the different costs and potential bills associated with your implant, clarify what patient assistance may—and may not—cover, and identify the questions you need answered before your procedure. And because everyone’s situation is different, you can engage with the support when you need it.
This combines my 10 years of experience with authorization for high-dollar infusion and gene therapy with my firsthand experience as the first patient in Ohio to receive an Encelto implant and a bilateral Encelto patient.
Instead of trying to piece together the process on your own, you’ll have a knowledgeable resource to help you navigate questions and next steps as they come up.

“Melissa coached me through some of the most difficult moments of my life with a powerful yet gentle presence. She created a safe, judgment-free space that helped me reconnect with my own clarity while navigating severe parental alienation, family-of-origin trauma, and chronic health challenges. Her compassion and thoughtful questions helped me feel seen and supported and move through these challenges with more confidence and steadiness. I’m deeply grateful for the way she walked alongside me.”
“I looked forward to every session with Melissa. She made it easy to open up, listened with kindness, and always offered support that helped me feel stronger and calmer. She taught me how to handle difficult situations and maintain a positive outlook, and I know I wouldn’t be as optimistic today without her guidance. Melissa is knowledgeable, understanding, and truly cares. I would 100% recommend nurse life coaching — she helped me through so much, and I know she’ll help others just as powerfully.”
